6 days, 4 bloggers, 1 destination

This blog is dedicated to 6 days [16-23rd June 2009], 4 Bloggers [Laura, Katie, Dave and Emma] and 1 Destination [Chora Sfakion Crete].

Throughout the week we will be updating the blog to fill you in on our experience giving you and insight to geographical aspects of Crete. There will be pictures and, later, a video so keep checking back to see if there is anything new going on.

The 4 Bloggers are taking part in their Second Year Field Class and are members of the Human and Physical Geography degree program at the University of Reading, England.

The village of Chora Sfakion is in south western Crete away from the glare and glamour of the heavily commercialised north of the island. Chora Sfakion is the capital of the region Sfakia which is located on the coast. Chora Sfakion is 150km from Heraklion. Chora Sfakion is home to 500 villagers who spend their time fishing and raising sheep and goats as well as producing cheese. There is not a large amount of tourist infrastructure in Chora Sfakion however tourism is an important source of income as we will come to see during our field trip.
